What a year it’s been! As we look back on 2024, we’re filled with pride and gratitude for everything the Accessibility Confident Employers (ACE) Project has achieved. Together, we’ve taken big steps toward breaking down barriers and creating workplaces where everyone can thrive.
Launched in April 2023, the ACE Project has grown into something truly special. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished together:
- 2,000+ people trained through 35 engaging sessions across public, private, and non-profit sectors.
- 20,000+ visitors exploring free resources on our website.
- A growing community of Accessibility Champions dedicated to building inclusive workplaces across Nova Scotia.
None of this would have been possible without the energy, commitment, and passion of the incredible people who joined us along the way.
What’s Working: Tools That Make a Difference
One of the things we’ve heard time and again is how practical and helpful our training tools are. Whether it’s checklists, workplace assessments, or tools like WAVE, we’re giving employers concrete steps to make accessibility happen—not someday, but today.
Our sessions also focus on what really matters: lived experiences. From powerful stories to local perspectives, participants are connecting with what it means to be inclusive in ways that stick. And let’s not forget the little things that make a big difference—like ASL interpreters, breakout rooms, and accessible tech—ensuring everyone feels included.
What People Are Taking Away: Confidence to Act
The transformation we’ve seen this year has been nothing short of amazing. Employers are realizing that creating accessible workplaces doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. In fact, it’s often the small, meaningful changes that have the biggest impact.
We’re hearing stories of participants revising policies, advocating for change, and sharing what they’ve learned with their teams. By centering diverse perspectives—especially those of Indigenous and Black Nova Scotians—we’re building an inclusive mindset that’s as local as it is intersectional.
What’s Next: Growing Together
While we’re thrilled with what we’ve achieved, we’re also excited to keep growing in 2025. Here’s what’s on the horizon:
- Advanced tools and skills for digital accessibility and assistive technologies.
- Sector-specific strategies to help organizations apply what they’ve learned.
- Inclusive guidance for organizations wanting to connect with culturally diverse communities.
- Resources in more languages, like French, to meet the needs of all Nova Scotians.
Thank You
The ACE Project is proof that change happens when we work together. Employers across Nova Scotia have shown they’re ready to step up, and we couldn’t be more excited to support them on this journey.
To everyone who participated, partnered, or cheered us on—thank you! You’re helping us create workplaces where everyone belongs, contributes, and thrives.
Here’s to another year of breaking barriers, building confidence, and making Nova Scotia a place where inclusion truly shines!
